    Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimeters. Optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLDs) are made of carbon-doped aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3:C) and were first used in personnel dosimetry before being applied in the clinical setting. They are very similar to TLDs in that they are passive dosimeters of small size that can be applied to. The amount of light given off is used to estimate the radiation dose received. There also are dosimeter badges based on optically stimulated (rather than heat-stimulated) luminescence of materials such as Al 2 O 3. Dosimeter badge services are provided by a number of commercial suppliers.
